In this context, minstrels played a crucial role, acting as transmitters of stories, events, poetry and knowledge in medieval communities. To fully understand the Castilian language, it is essential to explore the emergence of minstrels and their impact on medieval Spanish literature.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">At the dawn of the Middle Ages, Latin prevailed in official documents as the vehicular language, but the Romance languages began to take their first steps in writing. It was in the Cartularies of Valpuesta, from the year 804, where the first voices and manifestations written in a language other than Latin are traced. These documents represent a fundamental step in the linguistic evolution of the Iberian Peninsula.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">As time goes by, the Romance language gains ground in writing. The Nodicia de kesos en romance asturleones, dated 974, already reflects the fragmentation of Latin into a vulgar language. The Glosas Emilianenses, around the year 990, provide handwritten annotations in several languages, including the Romance of Rioja, another link in the process towards writing in Castilian. The Mozarabic jarchas in Mozarabic romance, around 1050, and the Glosas Silenses in peninsular romance around 1099, continued to weave the rich linguistic and cultural fabric of the time.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">Until now we have referred to written manifestations, but in the world of “oralitura” or oral transmission literature, this process goes centuries ahead and in it, minstrels play a fundamental role that will give rise in a few years to an important tradition. poetic-literary.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">In the year 1047, the Cartulary of San Marín de Albelda mentions Cardillo, the first minstrel known in all the medieval kingdoms of the peninsula. Sixty-nine years later, in 1116, Queen Urraca I of León expelled the minstrels' guild from Sahagún, evidencing the existence of a literary and artistic organization in this town in the 12th century. Almost a quarter of a century later, in 1140, the Cantar de Mio Cid was born, a work of orality, which is one of the most outstanding milestones of medieval European literature. Although its oral and musical form has been lost, we know the song thanks to a certain Per Abbat, who wrote it in 1207, a crucial fact for the preservation of the poem.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">From those vernacular poets we not only preserve vestiges of songs of deeds, but also works of a more cheerful and fun nature such as the 'Reason of love with the insults of water and wine', recorded in writing back in 1205, a minstrel poem of the goliard variety, which would be part of the usual repertoire of a minstrel.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">During this period of apogee of oral literature and language creation, Gonzalo de Berceo was born in 1196, the first poet-writer in the Spanish language whose name we know and who contributed significantly to literary development, who called himself "minstrel of the Virgin." .</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">In the years that followed, the romance writing tradition continued its flourishing, greatly influenced by the poetry of the minstrels. The 'Book of Alexandre', written around 1233, considered the first work of the Mester de Clerecía, seeks to distance itself from the poetic art of the minstrels, such was its ascendancy and relevance, as confirmed by the 'Life of Sta. María Egipciaca', written around 1240, a clear example of the minstrel influence in the hagiographic literature of the time, or the 'Book of Apollonius', written around 1250, featuring a minstrelss, full of scenes that describe the itinerant exercise of the Mester of Minstrelsy.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">In 1255, one of the last texts of the Mester de Clerecía, the 'Poema de Fernán González', stands out for being a literary work that addressed historical and legendary themes, modeled after a lost epic.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">As the 13th century progressed, Alfonso the Wise compiled the 'Cantigas de Santa María' between 1270 and 1282, an important corpus of music and poetry in the Galician-Portuguese language that includes stories and pictorial representations of minstrels.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">The 'Poema de Elena y María', written around 1280, the only copy of which is preserved, according to Ramón Menéndez Pidal, in a minstrel book, early addressed the classic theme of weapons and letters, highlighting the participation of the public in its staging.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;">In 1330, the 'Book of Good Love', written by a "minstrel clergyman", is presented as a literary work that combines lyrical, satirical and didactic elements for the use of minstrels.</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">The first example of a mature and formed Castilian language, the 'Libro de Patronio', a work written between 1331 and 1335, by Don Juan Manuel, is inspired by several sources, including oral tradition, and is intended to</span><span style="color: black;">Los Juglares y la Literatura Medieval Española:</span></p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">Los juglares y la literatura medieval española</span></p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">La
época.</span></p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">Hasta
poético-literaria.</span></p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">En
</span></p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">En
escena.</span></p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">En
</p><p align="justify" class="western" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #fff2cc;">Todo
This internationally recognized performing artist, known for his cultural outreach, was carefully selected by the CCET to participate in their programming for the celebration of Book Day. During his visit, Crispin will present the work "Risapalabra," a fusion of various performing arts that explores the relationship between humans, language, and oral tradition. Additionally, under the auspices of the Colectivo Teatro Bambú, a reference group in Honduran performing arts, the National Theater of the city of Tegucigalpa Manuel Bonilla will host Crispin's play, "Adventures and Readings of Don Quixote," a family show that brings the Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha to the present day. His visit not only promotes cultural exchange between Spain and Honduras, but also underscores the importance of art and culture in society. During his stay in Tegucigalpa, Crispin will provide training workshops on oral storytelling and share his experiences with artists and students in the country, mutually enriching each other in a unique opportunity to build cultural bridges between countries and communities.</p>Crispín d'Olothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17038770789940567032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4199547052567200112.post-87893781398682791532023-01-27T02:20:00.001-08:002023-01-27T22:44:16.791-08:00Interview in La Gatera 01/23/2023<p> </p><blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="337" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mSxBfVFQuKA" width="483" youtube-src-id="mSxBfVFQuKA"></iframe></div></blockquote><p style="text-align: center;">http://www.canalextremadura.es/a-la-carta/la-gatera/audios/la-gatera-230123 </p>Raquel Bazo, questions the minstrel Crispin d'Olot about the job and the meaning of minstrelsy in the 21st century.<p></p><p><br /></p>Crispín d'Olothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17038770789940567032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4199547052567200112.post-52784454225134626662023-01-02T23:12:00.007-08:002023-01-02T23:16:42.115-08:00O DEI VERBUM ATTRIBUTED TO BEATUS OF LIEBANA VIII CENTURY<p>I.</p>

¡Ah!, y sobre todo, no den esos sobresaltos a los artistas con más de mas de quinientos añós.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #fce5cd;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Unless one is illiterate or a ghost or owns a printing press and likes to play tricks on gullible neighborhood, one usually cannot stop to read one's own obituary. However, a few days ago I found out from the press that I have died. I get up, groom myself, have breakfast, go into the office, sit down at the computer and when I open a notification to my envoyed, I read with astonishment that I have passed on to a better life. The curious thing about the case is that I did not die yesterday or before yesterday or before yesterday, as was to be expected in current news, my perplexity broke marks when I realized that he had died 50 decades ago, five hundred years, in the middle of the Century of Gold. Not only that, my soul was installed in the Golden Parnassus of Hispanic letters, speaking on first-name terms with poets such as Francisco de Quevedo or the Tenth Muse, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, without excluding the great Archpriest of Hita. Crispin d'Olot, author of the Golden Age who died five centuries ago!? Someone was committing an anachronism, worse still, violating the laws of physics, which maintain that the same body cannot occupy two places at the same time.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I read the news headline again: 'I…minstrel? (Yo... ¿juglar?)' is presented this weekend in León". León is indeed my birth province. And indeed, "I, minstrel (Yo, juglar)" is one of my best-known shows and has been performed all over the world for more than 10 years. Everything seemed to indicate that the 5th centenary of my burial was being honored in my native humus: León, something normal for a minstrel who is on first-name terms with Quevedo and Sor Juana. Said tribute was paid by the company "Trayecto (Music, theater and other arts), which had worked uninterruptedly for 22 years and this time offered the Leonese public a show described as a scenic, musical and post-pandemic buffoonery". Well, purebred comedians, of race, transgressors, very transgressors. So much so that the representation of "I... minstrel?" was not in the old Spanish León, where she could have attended as if returning from the grave, but in Guanajuato, Mexico. Pity. If I had known in time, I would have introduced myself with my wife.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Even the musicians and musicians were contemporary with me: John Dowland - the master of melancholy, with whose piece "Mrs. Winter jump" I set Quevedo's famous sonnet to the no Góngora's nose- and the illustrious Monteverdi. The promoters of this posthumousness were Don Armando Holzer and Enrique Torres, who publicly declared themselves avid admirers of the minstrel figure. I don't want to be a killjoy but, Mr. Holzwer and Mr. This is all his talent, I still haven't died 500 years ago, nor am I about to die next or the next. "Yo, minstrel" is one of my best known and most performed works and Quevedo and the Archpriest of Hita are part of my regular repertoire, as well as Dowland's music, which can be heard in my version from about 10 years ago on you tube . I think they should be better documented before continuing their career and rolling their shows along the paths of scenic art, lest the centenary artist to whom they pay homage is alive, kicking and offering the public on both sides of Spanish his own show. Oh, and above all, don't scare the artists who live and survive on their intellect and their work.</p></div>Crispín d'Olothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17038770789940567032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4199547052567200112.post-35797250232778561182022-09-20T00:15:00.007-07:002022-09-20T01:41:50.160-07:00Diego Ordóñez´ challenge to the city of Zamora / Reto de Diego Ordóñez a la ciudad de Zamora<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAm4GoW52Xlu8m3f78ycJ1hudzwFva8QyKZ2UQhIlVYb4O9_Grsb3vFrhh5IDZ-3LwYn4agLTDWfheC5ZaMtgpz2wIyMWENk9iaHgt8_hEZubJ2SIoN6TMPXesMH3X63waQb5pQQozuONn31ilalsoMgcvisOWLun2xjh-zAti1AdJrG00DYhPwYUJ/s2048/304188789_574188687831488_3633112321049292762_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1266" data-original-width="2048" height="397" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAm4GoW52Xlu8m3f78ycJ1hudzwFva8QyKZ2UQhIlVYb4O9_Grsb3vFrhh5IDZ-3LwYn4agLTDWfheC5ZaMtgpz2wIyMWENk9iaHgt8_hEZubJ2SIoN6TMPXesMH3X63waQb5pQQozuONn31ilalsoMgcvisOWLun2xjh-zAti1AdJrG00DYhPwYUJ/w640-h397/304188789_574188687831488_3633112321049292762_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Recreation of Zamora's siege 2022</div><p>English</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">I challenge you, <i>Zamoranos</i>,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">by fement traitors</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">because of the death of King Sancho</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">guilt you declare for sure</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">when you have on your walls</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">sheltered the murderer.</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Therefore to each and everyone</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">and in council I challenge you.</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Challenge men and women,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">I challenge the old and children,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">I challenge the living and the dead,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">the unborn and born:</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">I challenge the donkeys and mules,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">you stir up the bread and the wine,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">I challenge the brambles of the mountain,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">challenge to the stones of the river.</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">If someone denies me this,</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">come deal with me.</span></p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">Spanish</p><p align="justify" style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">¡Yo vos riepto, zamoranos,</p>

What is the basis for this statement? Was the first School of Jugglers born in Sahagún?</p><p>Crispín d’Olot: The deduction is made by Ramón Menéndez Pidal in ‘Poetry minstrels and minstrels’ based on the first Anonymous Chronicle of Sahagún. In 1116 there was a stable minstrel guild in Sahagún, an organized group of artists. Pidal deduces that, the existence of this guild would not be understood without a training center, schools of which it does have evidence in France; in Advent or Lent the lords would send the minstrels there to receive teachings. In short: such a statement is risky because there is no documentation that makes reference to a school of minstrels, but Sahagún is in a privileged situation within their history.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw-d-C2ay2AJ7RHAxTieeCIQu26mXEOhHVBe9tgl_CkvX61AYLqxr1pQZyTMjVxtGqgdCxADH9TaQhCFoDUKuBVdzT_DIl1sUOKXT76v9PqUzYV0uQ9IZ9TfhMY45Qyzp1qxhHQ-twOAA/s670/1932_dsc_7030.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="670" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw-d-C2ay2AJ7RHAxTieeCIQu26mXEOhHVBe9tgl_CkvX61AYLqxr1pQZyTMjVxtGqgdCxADH9TaQhCFoDUKuBVdzT_DIl1sUOKXT76v9PqUzYV0uQ9IZ9TfhMY45Qyzp1qxhHQ-twOAA/s320/1932_dsc_7030.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Crispín d'Olot, Dr. Nieves Munsuri and Professor Javier Iglesia, lecturers</span></div><p style="text-align: justify;">Question: What are we talking about when we talk about the minstrel? Were they more than just a synonym for entertainment?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Answer: The figure of the minstrel was born in the Middle Ages from the fusion of two artist. The entertainment part, the one most linked to the circus and humor, is inherited from the Roman "mime", a figure that was present until the fall of the empire and the formation of the Germanic kingdoms. The other half of the minstrel arrives with the Franks, Visigoths, Vandals… heroic songs and deeds and the rough music of their "bards" and "scops".</p><p style="text-align: justify;">They provide us with the creation of epic poetry that will later serve as the unifying spirit of the European nations. It is very important because they are the first to perform in the language of the people and give a historical dimension to those kingdoms that are being formed and which will later become France, United Kingdom, Spain ... Along with entertainment, the minstrel becomes a transmitter of ideological content , primitive journalism.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Question: There is no data from the school, but documents have been found that speak, at least, of a Sahagunense minstrel ...</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Answer: Indeed. There is a document of purchase of a farm, with a detailed location of the land - next to the church of San Cristóbal - in favor of a neighbor of Sahagún named Alfonso, a minstrel by profession. It is a document from the year 1111. Alfonso, ‘iugularem’, buys from Prior Martín a part of a hawthorn to make a garden, committing himself to deliver the tithe in garlic and onions. This document is in the National Library, together with the expulsion order issued by Doña Urraca.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Question: You mention that Sahagún is in a privileged situation in the history of the minstrel phenomenon in Europe. In your task as a researcher, have you found more references?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Answer: Many. In addition to the two documents that we have mentioned before, we see Sahagún in the Cantar del Mio Cid which, according to the latest research, could have been written by a minstrel. They tell us about Sahagún in the Song of the Siege of Zamora, in Galaicolusa poetry, in the Cantigas ... both in direct association and in sources Sahagún is a common reference.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Question: What do we owe to the minstrels?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Answer: It would be impossible to imagine Spain without the Cid, France without the Song of Roldan, England without the legends of King Arthur. All these literary works are minstrels' creation in part or totally and we owed them their dissemination. They are the first literary texts in the vernacular linked to a human group that will later be called a nation. Let us not forget that one of the distinctive features of the identity of a people or nation is the language. Well, the language that we speak today to a large extent is inaugurated and shaped by minstrels. And in that sense they are much more important than the troubadours, who do nothing but use that language when it has already been promoted by the minstrels' guild.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Question: Therefore, what role does Sahagún occupy in this cultural heritage?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Answer: It can be affirmed with Ramón Menéndez Pidal that Sahagún is one of the cradles of the Spanish language. Because, before it were written in the monasteries in the form of glosses, it was used by the minstrels in order to a poetic and ‘literary’ activity; I say literary in quotes because the letter is written. Perhaps the professor is exaggerating, but it must be taken into account that the minstrels were expelled in 1116, twenty-four years before the date proposed for the composition of the Cantar de Mío Cid. This would mean that the Spanish language would be highly evolved and, why not, Sahagún could have been a key linguistic laboratory in the modeling of the Cervantes language.</p>Crispín d'Olothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17038770789940567032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4199547052567200112.post-86938651944360019282021-06-16T00:31:00.004-07:002021-06-22T22:24:13.088-07:00FIRST FILE FESTIVAL OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7fEQ7F16L_FenZ51KQGQhdGJ2vI3EaxldVOsGsqbSof5FYRsoh2f_QfV0TFgrtCzqkMihVG0AKSAEdbvG9pu_QGLmjWu1vGKXoWZiEFgliamKuiy6oGKotUORbMZlGjBxDjZs4KZMzsk/s1410/promo-file-osma.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="912" data-original-width="1410" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7fEQ7F16L_FenZ51KQGQhdGJ2vI3EaxldVOsGsqbSof5FYRsoh2f_QfV0TFgrtCzqkMihVG0AKSAEdbvG9pu_QGLmjWu1vGKXoWZiEFgliamKuiy6oGKotUORbMZlGjBxDjZs4KZMzsk/w582-h376/promo-file-osma.gif" width="582" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Crispín d'Olot participates in this first edition of the festival with a musical and theatrical show, FLOR DE ROMANCES with a lot of humor and old instruments, developed in three parts: the classical ballads, the popular tradition and the legacy of the blind.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>
esa fase", precisa d'Olot. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>
<div><div style="text-align: center;"><img alt="[Img #22007]" class="RichTextAlignLeft" src="http://sahagundigital.com/upload/images/01_2021/4128_crispin2.jpg" /></div><span class="RichTextAlignLeft citewrapper"><div class="imagefooterprint" style="text-align: justify;"> <cite>La Biblioteca del Juglar arranca con 2.500 volúmenes</cite></div><div class="imagefooterprint" style="text-align: justify;"><cite><br /></cite></div></span><div style="text-align: justify;">El
</div></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"> </div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Questions</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1-Do you consider yourself a minstrel of the XXI century?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Apart from one's opinion about oneself, the main opinion is that of others. The public, the people, consider me a minstrel of the 21st century. I say, why not? If that fantastic archetype lives on in the collective memory and they think I embody it, that's fine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the other hand, I have verified that many artistic intuitions that have marked my career as a minstrel were genuine characteristics of the classic minstrels -I understand by classic minstrel those that lived in the Middle Ages-; I have been able to verify that my work was not as far from theirs as you might think so many centuries later.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>2-What differences and similarities do you think there are between a minstrel of this century and the Middle Ages?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I will start with the similarities and quote Henri Michaux: “Europeans have not represented anything for a long time. Europeans present. Everything is there on the scene. Everything, nothing is missing, not even the view from the window. ” The minstrel in his theatrical activity “represents”, represents, suggests, insinuates… He projects everything from the characters to the scenery, so that the viewer can follow the adventures of an 11th century Castilian warrior from Burgos to Valencia, battles and skirmishes included, without feeling any emptyness. The spectator suspends his credulity and spiritually enjoys a pure theater, an art without more artifices than those that can add to the body, voice and memory. The minstres's talent does the rest. In that we are equal. We work with the same raw material.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Among the differences, which can be infinite, since the medieval and renaissance order infinitely differs from the current order, I will emphasize that the minstrel was not aware of his technique as I am at the moment. He was the ancient tradition standing up but still without self-awareness. From the fusion of Roman mimes and Germanic bards, Western medieval minstrels emerged. But if we examine comparatively the ancient oral transmission literature, the Hellenic and the Celtic, for example, we will find similarities that make us think of a common Indo-European trunk of contents and subjects that are still present in his poetry. Another difference from the classic minstrels is that they contributed to the formation of the language. In my case I contribute to its dissemination. I am heir to an already standardized and structured language that even has an academy that watches over its integrity. Minstrels lacked language rules. They used the language innocently and were extremely successful.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>3- From what sources do you nourish yourself to make your creations? Is there an author that inspires you?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I like poetry. I look for those poems that are a transmission belt between the minstrel and his audience. Besides the literary or aesthetic or emotional value, the poem has to assume theatrical and scenic form. I have to see his representation clearly. This epiphany happens first in the mind, then it must be passed from the muses to the theater. Problems can arise here, but the excellent thing about poetry is that you can always put literary means where the theatrical ones don't reach and theatrical ones where the literary ones don't. That is a very characteristic trait of the minstrel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another source is orality. I am very interested in pure oral narration, that is, recreating a non-poetic text spontaneously without losing vigor and freshness. I'm going to give you an example. He previously spoke of the Indo-European tree from which myths, themes and even shared metaphors are born. Do you know the Gilgamesh epic? It is the oldest written text in the world. The Akkadians are believed to have set it in writing 4,500 years ago, and it tells the desperate story of King Gilgamesh in pursuit of immortality after the death of his best friend Enkidu. It is a beautiful, epic, profound, supernatural and very poetic text. After reading it, I wondered how to undertake the theatrical representation of this essential text. The two options that a minstrel has are to memorize or recreate. I think that if someday I decide to take it to the stage I would lean towards the second one, although perhaps this involves memorizing and deconstructing the text in order to appropriate it orally. Well, that's the orality that interests me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of the authors, I like the "romancero" of anonymous author very much for its clarity, conciseness, linearity, etc. It lends itself well to singing and declamation but also to representation. It has something that pulls you till the final verse. It is very well built and despite that objectivity, it is not lacking in resources and findings that give it liveliness and grace.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Cervantes still seems to me one of the most eclectic and complete authors for his unitary conception of literature, life and theater. The way everything is intertwined in Don Quixote is perhaps the greatest exponent of this conception of art. I am also inspired by his disciple Jorge Luis Borges and, of course, another great man: Shakespeare.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>4-Do you think people recognize your work?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Yes. Proof of this are my trips to the US and all of Latin America. The representation is pure magic. It is not a physical thing, it is a psychic phenomenon. So the material on stage is superfluous. What counts is the energy that the artist radiates. In that sense, I think the public feels that passion when I performed and they are spellbound.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>5- In which places do you usually act?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
As a good minstrel, in everywhere. I have stepped on TV sets but I have also performed on the street or improvised for family and folks. What is clear to me is that the stage is the place where your success or failure ; it´s the key and it will not always favor you because it is imposed. Although if you are looking for security and regularity, you better not dedicate yourself to this.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>6-What are you looking to try to impress your audience so that they can experience the stories you tell?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I use collage a lot. I combine music, singing, declamation, prosody, improvisation, humor. Everything as long as the audience is not indifferent to what happens on stage. It is a responsibility to make people enjoy. The performing arts are always on the tightrope at the mercy of applause from the fickle public. However much you try to find something that impresses them, they are the ones who choose what impresses them about the artist. I may want to impress them with the Gilgamesh legend, with its antiquity, depth, beauty, but surely 90 percent would be impressed by my memory. Now I have told you what most impacts my representations.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>7-Do you resort to improvisation in your performances?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
All I can. The here and now is part of the minstrel's job. I work a lot with classic texts of those that are labeled as annoying. Nothing further from the here and now. The Cuaderna Vía, the verse anaisosyllabic. How boring! Therefore improvisation is a basic tool. Improvisation does not have to be verbal, it can be body language, inclusion, denial, participation. It all adds up so that the spectator suspends his sense of time, his credulity, his prejudices and can let himself be carried away by what is happening on stage even if it is in the middle of the square of a village of 15 neighbors.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>8-How many instruments can you play?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
A lot… Almost all of them are string instruments. It would be better tell you the ones I don't play, such as the piano. The ones I use the most are the guitar and the hurdy-gurdy. The latter, for its sound that transports to another era. See, another way to get people into the show.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>9-How do you get you got your instruments?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Basically they are from three provenances. The first source is the artisans or luthiers. In my travels I have met many of them. Occasionally I make a commission that they receive with joy. Others, the historical ones, which are not replicas or facsimiles are old original instruments that I restore or send to restore. They come from deceased people, from other musicians who come off them, from antique shops, from flea markets, from distant countries, etc. Finally there are the instruments that you can buy in music stores where there are also very interesting things.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>10-How did you learn the medieval songs you know?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
The Middle Ages, which has been reviled since the Renaissance, is a very interesting time. It is the starting point for many things we have taken for granted for centuries, such as cultured music. In the Middle Ages musical instruments were developed in a highly creative way, the musical notation was fixed and songbooks such as the codices of the Cantigas de Santa María were created, where several of their compositions were dedicated to minstrels. Fortunately, the beginning of the 20th century has brought a recovery of medieval culture beyond the four things that everyone knows: cathedrals, Romanesque sculpture and Gothic realism. Medieval music has been reinvented by reconstructing it through its codices and the sounds of its instruments, as well as through comparative ethnography and musical anthropology. It has been fortunate to be in contact with artists of this movement who have managed to transmit their knowledge and their musical heritage to me.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
However, the soil was already fertilized and it was favorable for this seed to bear beautiful fruit. Since I was a child in my house it has been sung: at work, at the table, in meetings, etc. I have been the recipient of an endless number of traditional songs and above all "romances" - a repertoire that is supposed to be compound by minstrels - that have made me love an era and a form of expression because, as I said, the "romance" lends itself to both Caliope and Melpemone. In this family environment, from my childhood I was nourished by stories that strengthened my memory and fed my imagination. With time he would find in the minstrel a way to give way to all that flow of wonders. The rest has been work and research.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Preguntas</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-weight: 700;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<b></b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>
</b>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<u><br /></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<b></b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>
</b>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<u><br /></u></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>4-¿Crees que las personas
reconocen tu trabajo?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Sí. Prueba de ello son mis viajes
a EE UU y toda Iberoamérica.
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
5- ¿En qué lugares sueles actuar?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Como buen juglar, en todos. He
impuesto.
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Recurro mucho al collage. Combino
Ahora te he dicho lo
que más impacta de mis representaciones.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>7-¿Recurres a la improvisación en
tus actuaciones?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>8-¿Cuántos instrumentos sabes
tocar?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Muchísimos… Casi todos ellos de
cuerda.
transporta a otra época.
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
9-¿Cómo consigues has conseguido
tus instrumentos?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Básicamente son de tres
procedencias. En mis viajes he
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b>10-¿Cómo has aprendido las
canciones medievales que conoces?</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
acervo musical.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
